MERC Conference 2008 – Education: New Horizons

On behalf of MERC we take pleasure in inviting you to participate in our annual conference.

When: Friday 4th July 2008 as part of the Faculty Winter Research School.
Where: Manton Rooms, Ground Floor, Menzies Building (Building 11), Clayton Campus.

2008 Conference Program (pdf 47Kb)

On this page:

Introduction

The MERC conference aims to provide:

  • an opportunity for early-career researchers (ie all research students, PhD, Masters and Honours) to present their work-in-progress in a supportive environment,
  • an opportunity for staff and research students in the Faculty to get to know more about the research being carried out across the different campuses of the Faculty,
  • an opportunity for staff and research students to meet and share academic views and opinions, especially for part-time students and peers.

We invite you to present a paper or a poster, and contribute to the fostering of the research community of staff and students in the Faculty.

In keeping with the general aim of supporting all presenters, topics for paper presentations will be nominated by prospective presenters themselves, as long as these topics are relevant to educational research in some way.

Papers may be works-in-progress, reports of submitted theses, reports of research projects or presentations of completed research.

The Manton Rooms are well equipped with excellent technological/multi-media facilities so please indicate your requirement on the proposal form which can be downloaded below.

Registration for attendance will be on the program of options for Winter School. Please refer to your Winter School information pack (to be sent out by the end of May) on how to register.

Abstracts for presentations and posters should be a maximum of 200 words and must be submitted for consideration by Tuesday 10th June, 2008.

All abstracts will be read by members of the conference planning committee who will decide on the papers to be included in the program.

Papers should be 20 minutes in duration with an additional 10 minutes for questions (total 30 minutes).

Posters should follow the normal academic research poster presentation format (details on the poster abstract form below) with a preferred size of A0 although posters that are A1 or A2 will also be accepted.

All costs incurred in poster presentation are the responsibility of the presenter, however there is a process for applying for reimbursement of costs from students designated faculty research funding. Application for costs reimbursement must be applied for and approved prior to money outlay.
Posters that have been submitted to previous conferences will be accepted provided the abstract is approved by the MERC conference committee.  Poster presenters will have the opportunity to ‘talk to’ their posters and answer questions during poster sessions within the program.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and meeting up with all of you at the conference.
